April 30, 2014 - Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Senators fell 3-2 to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins despite forcing overtime in the final period of regulation. Chuck Kobasew redirected home a shot from Conor Sheary 7:32 into the overtime period to give the Penguins the 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup.

Corey Cowick scored shorthanded in the 3-2 loss.
Nick Drazenovic opened the scoring on a five-on-three power-play shot just under eight minutes into the first period on a cross-ice feed from Kobasew to make it 1-0 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Just 21 seconds later, Corey Cowick drew the B-Sens even on a shorthanded goal when he beat Peter Mannino high for his first tally of the postseason.

Wilkes-Barre retook the lead 2-1 at the 16:37 mark of the middle frame when Adam Payerl sent a weak shot towards the net that beat a screened Andrew Hammond giving the hosts the one-goal advantage heading into the final intermission of regulation.

Jim O’Brien forced the overtime period when he managed to get a stick on a shot from Derek Grant with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation. O’Brien was playing in his first game since Binghamton’s March 16 win over the Rochester Americans.

Hammond made plenty of quality stops in the overtime period but failed to turn aside the deflected shot faced in the period giving the Penguins the 3-2 win.

Mannino stopped 20 of 22 shots faced in just over 67 minutes of play while Hammond made 30 of 33 saves in the tough overtime loss.

Game 4 is Friday, May 2, in Wilkes-Barre starting at 7:05p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Penguin’s ticket office at (570) 208-7367.
