This might be controversial but in my opinion Gehrett Sargis is the best player in this league. He may not lead in points but he has the highest hockey IQ I have seen in this league. Sargis is huge asset on the team playing major roles on both the power play and penatly kill switching back and forth from forward to defense. The pairing of Gehrett Sargis and Scott Ramaekers both being former forwards has been the defensive pair we never knew we needed. Several points in last nights game they were able to stop odd man rushes and limit the amount of chances the River Dragons had against Tmej. The puck control that Sargis has in the zone allows the forwards to set up and allows for many scoring opportunities. Arguably the best play in last nights game was watching all of the fans stand up and throw their hands in the air as Sargis would come in and score a beautiful goal with only 30 seconds left in the game. This not only kept the game within 1 but showed not only the River Dragons but the fans as well that you don’t count the Black Bears out until that final horn blows.

As Black Bears broadcaster Brooks Hill said last night Nick Cyprian has played one of his best if not best game so far in the season. Now I know we are early in the season however each game so far Cyprian continues to impress with his ability to move the puck and create scoring opportunities. The Black Bears dominated control of the puck well into the first period with many shots on goal against rookie net minder Doug Wakelyn it took almost 13 minutes for the Bears to score as Cyprian had the puck and made a cross ice pass to Chance Gorman to get the first goal of the game. Then with only 5 seconds left to go in the first period Cyprian is at the red line with line mates Gorman and Dabrowski where they some how battle it out to get a shot on goal with 1 second before the buzzer trying to give Binghamton the go ahead goal. Early on in the 2nd period Sam Dabrowski held the puck down low behind the River Dragons net long enough for Cyprian to get set up for a shot on goal. Then later in the 2nd period in the neutral zone the River Dragons give the puck away to Cyprian who skated 2 on 1 against the River Dragons in front of the net for a shot on goal then had a big collision that landed him on the ice for a moment before he got back up and joined the play. His ability to get to the puck and get it deep in the zone is going to be a major factor for the Black Bears scoring. He continues to be a player you want to keep an eye on.

Another player that has been catching my attention and especially so in last nights game is Brendan Doyle. Head Coach Brant Sherwood has this ability of pairing forwards together where they become almost unstoppable. One year it was Cam Clark and Chris Mott last year it was Ivan Bondarenko and CJ Stubbs this year I feel like it could be Brendan Doyle and Carter Jordan. During the 1st period Doyle does a great job carrying the puck in deep while Binghamton was going for a line change and he sets up Eric Neiley for a shot on goal. Later in the period Jordan does a great job keeping the puck in the zone allowing Sargis to pick it out of the corner and sends it to Doyle who was calling for it and gets his first professional goal and ties the game up at 2 a piece. During the 2nd period both Jordan and Doyle do a excellent job keeping the puck in the zone and taking several scoring opportunities trying to get the Black Bears ahead. The 2nd and 3rd line for the Black Bears have been the key factors in last nights game and the pairing of Jordan and Doyle is going to be one we will want to see a whole lot more of.
