Welcome back to another year of Impact Player reports coming to you after every game and this year we are doing it a little differently This is the first edition featuring the ‘Fan picked Impact Player’ in which after every game the fans have an opportunity to send me a message and let me know what player stuck out to you during the game for a chance to be featured on the Impact Players report.

Whether you felt some type of way about this player during the championship game or not I truly think he is here doing exactly what I thought he would. It might only be the first game of the season but Jake Hamilton has such a presence on the ice that I believe is giving a guy like Cheechoo Lathlin more confidence to perform and be a stronger defenseman. Hamilton also made sure that no one got to close to Dominik Tmej and when given the opportunity he was blocking shots especially when it came to a 4 on 3 penalty kill towards the end of the 1st period. The last big noticeable thing that he did that had an impact to me was making sure Tmej wasn’t getting off the ice alone. Hamilton and several rookies surrounded Tmej at the end of the 2nd period and escorted him off the ice and I do believe Hamilton was the last one off the ice. I can’t wait to see the impact he has on the team this season.

We only had one full season with this player yet watching him play Saturday night it was like he never even left. Andrew Logar played a “fill in” role where Head Coach Brant Sherwood was able to call on him and help out the Black Bears during this immigration/visa issue. Logar came into this game like he has been practicing with Black Bears for weeks. Dressed as the extra forward alongside Anthony Bernardo both players added an extra depth to the team that even though they didn’t get any points both made an impact. Logar has this chippy attitude that can be detrimental to the opposing team because chances are they will end up taking a penalty. The good the bad and ugly is that he can get guys in the box he can end up there himself but no matter what or who he won’t back down and hes going to make sure you hear him. As Ivan Bondarenko put it “hes a beaut but he has a death wish”. While I want nothing more than the immigration issue to be settled so our players can actually play I kind of hope we can have Logar for this upcoming series against Port Huron.

Special shout out to Kelli Howe for sending her pick for the Impact Players. This weeks fan pick is Nick Cyprian “While I think so many of our players deserve mention in the impact players and many were obvious. One player my eye went to every time he was on the ice was Nick Cyprian, he didn’t score but I saw him in so many places. He was in the crease a lot and taking hits and getting under peoples skin.” I have to agree Cyprian was someone who caught my attention every time he was on the ice especially during the matching roughing call with Jake Schultz in the 1st period where he was in the crease and really taking a hit but he kept a cool calm demeanor even the seconds leading up to that interaction where Schultz who towers over Cyprian had a hold of him in front of Nolan Egbert, Cyprian paid no mind to Schultz. He is the kind of player that has a strong mentality with the ability to get under the opposing teams skin while not letting anything rattle him.
