The Binghamton "Broome"
Dusters was the first minor league hockey team that
played in Binghamton, NY at the Broome County Veterans Memorial
Arena from 1973 to 1980. The Dusters played their first
four seasons in the North American Hockey League,
the NAHL inspired the infamous movie Slap Shot. The
Dusters played their remaining 3 seasons in the
American Hockey League from 1977-1980 before the
team was sold and became the Binghamton Whalers. The Dusters during the AHL years were affiliated with the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) 1977-78, Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL)/Quebec Nordiques (WHA) 1978-70 and Boston Bruins/LA Kings (NHL) 1979-80. |
