Left-Shot Forward Brings 22 Games of SPHL Experience, Strong Elmira College Career and Player Development Background

The Binghamton Black Bears added another piece to their 2026-27 roster today, announcing the signing of rookie forward Chance Gorman. While Gorman will officially enter the season as a rookie with Binghamton, the 27-year-old left-shot forward already has some professional experience, having appeared in 22 regular-season games with the Fayetteville Marksmen of the SPHL over the past two seasons.

A native of Clinton, New Jersey, Gorman began his junior career with the New Jersey Rockets of the USPHL Premier Division in 2018-19, recording 41 points in 38 regular-season games. He followed that with an outstanding 2019-20 season with the East Coast Wizards of the Eastern Hockey League, where he earned First-Team All-Star honors after producing 66 points on 30 goals and 36 assists.

Gorman continued his career at Elmira College, where he played five seasons from 2020-21 through 2024-25. In 117 career NCAA Division III games, he recorded 54 goals and 58 assists for 112 points. His best goal-scoring season came in 2022-23, when he scored 20 goals in just 26 games. He followed that with 21 points in 26 games during the 2023-24 season and finished his collegiate career with 26 points in 24 games during 2024-25.

That final collegiate season also marked Gorman's first opportunity to play professional hockey. He joined Fayetteville and appeared in 11 regular-season games, scoring two goals and adding six assists for eight points. He also suited up for one playoff game, scoring a goal. Gorman returned to the Marksmen for the 2025-26 season and played another 11 games, producing two goals and three assists.

A Player Who Also Coaches

Gorman brings another interesting element to Binghamton beyond his playing résumé. He has remained heavily involved in player development away from the professional rink.

He serves as a Skills Coach with the Elmira Aviators of the North American Hockey League, working with junior-level players on areas such as advanced execution and positioning. He is also a Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator with DAGS Hockey, a New Jersey-based player-development program that provides clinics, camps and training for young hockey players.

That coaching experience could provide Gorman with a unique perspective as he continues to pursue his own professional career. His background gives him experience not only executing offensive concepts on the ice, but also teaching those concepts to developing players.

For the Black Bears, Gorman becomes another forward option as the team continues to reshape its roster following a championship season. His combination of collegiate production, junior-level success, limited SPHL experience and player-development work makes him an intriguing addition.

The Black Bears will be hoping that Gorman can turn that previous professional experience into a larger opportunity in Binghamton—and prove that this “rookie” has plenty left to offer at the professional level.
