Gehrett Sargis Returns to Binghamton Black Bears for Second Season

The Binghamton Black Bears are bringing back another veteran from their championship roster, announcing that Gehrett Sargis will return for the 2026-27 season, his second season with the organization.

The Sarge returns for a second season with the Black Bears.

Sargis, 37, returns after helping the Black Bears capture their third consecutive Commissioner's Cup Championship during the 2025-26 season. In 36 regular-season games, the veteran forward recorded 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points, while posting 40 penalty minutes and a +26 rating. He continued to be a contributor during the postseason, scoring four goals and adding two assists for six points in nine playoff games as Binghamton completed another championship run.

The upcoming season will mark Sargis' 13th season of professional hockey, and he brings an impressive championship r�sum� back to Binghamton. He is a three-time Commissioner's Cup Champion, winning with the Danville Dashers in 2016-17, the Columbus River Dragons in 2020-21, and the Binghamton Black Bears in 2025-26. He has also captured an SPHL President's Cup Championship with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.

And for Sargis, championships are about much more than simply adding another trophy to the r�sum�. During an interview on the Power Play Post Show last season, he explained what winning a championship truly means to him.

�You play to win championships... to win a championship is a bonus. It's incredible because... it's your buddies, it's who you're with all year that you're playing and grinding with. And so it just means so much.�

That championship mentality will now return to the Black Bears locker room for another season.

Sargis becomes the sixth returning player from last season's Commissioner's Cup Championship team to sign for 2026-27, joining Ivan Bondarenko, CJ Stubbs, Zac Sirota, Jesse Anderson and Cheechoo Lathlin. The return of those six players gives Binghamton an important group of veterans who know exactly what it takes to win in the FPHL.

At 37 years old, Sargis continues to prove that experience, preparation and a love for the game can still make a major difference. During that same Power Play Post Show interview, Sargis explained simply what has kept him playing professionally for so long:

�I just love, love the game. I enjoy it. I love, love hockey.�

Now entering his 13th professional season, the veteran forward will once again have the opportunity to chase another championship with the Binghamton Black Bears.
