The 1992-93 Binghamton Rangers entered into the
American Hockey League's Calder Cup playoffs as the
overall #1 seed, amassing a 57-13-10 record with 124 points,
a points record that still stands today. In the first round
of the 12 team tournament, the Rangers faced off against the
South Division's fourth seed, Baltimore Skipjacks.
The Rangers defeated the Skipjacks in 7 games scoring 29
goals and allowing 24 goals in the first round. The Rangers
then faced off against their upstate rivals the
Rochester Americans in the second round, losing to
the Americans in 7 games. The Americans scored 26 goals in
the series while the Rangers were only able to score 21
goals in the upset series of the playoffs. Rochester went on
to play against the Cape Breton Oilers but
lost in 5 games in the finals.
Craig
Duncanson and Steven King both
scored 7 goals in the playoffs, while King added 9 assists
to lead the Rangers in the playoffs with 16 points. Rookie
net-minder, Corey Hirsch played in all 14
games during the playoffs for the Rangers scoring 7 wins and
7 losses, with a 3.32 GAA and a .876 save percentage.
Through out the years, the regular season accolades for the
team's 124 points, a record that still stands today and
Don Biggs 138 point season, also a record
that still stands today has overshadowed the Rangers
disappointing playoff performance. |
