| The Binghamton Black Bears defeated the Elmira River Sharks 7-3 in front of 4,000 plus fans in Binghamton on Saturday night. Elmira’s Spencer Kozlowski had a big save with 9 minutes left in the 1st period on Connor Smith to keep the game 0-0. Connor Smith scored the Black Bears first goal of the season at 13:44 mark, assisted by Jesse Anderson. Brandon Stanko made the game 2-0 after tapping a rebound shot from Liam Anderson at the 16:27 mark. Kona Jackson scored right off a faceoff to make it 2-1 Black Bears at the 6:38 mark of the 2nd period. Connor Smith scored his 2nd of the night in the 2nd period after a rocket shot from the slot to pull the Black Bears to a 3-1 lead. Austin Thompson makes it 4-1 with 9:32 left in the 2nd period, scoring his first goal of the season. An off season acquisition from the Danbury Hat Tricks, Dustin Jesseau scored his first for the Black Bears off the rebound from a Daniel Stone, putting the Black Bears up 5-1. Elmira got one back to make it 5-2 after Kona Jackson's 2nd goal of the 2nd period. After 2 periods of play, the Black Bears had a 5-2 lead and a 43-21 lead in shots. It took until 13:52 mark of the 3rd period, but the River Sharks scored off the stick of Brandon Lucchessi to make it 5-3. But only 24 seconds later, Thomas Wray scored his 1st of his pro-career to get the Black Bears up 6-3. Tyson Kirkby scored his 1st of the season with 4:04 left in the 3rd to make this a 7-3 game. The game got ugly near the end of the 3rd period, with 4 players, 1 from Elmira and Jesseau, Kirkby and Ivashkin all being ejected from the game. However the Black Bears win their first game of the season, by the score of 7-3. The Black will now travel to the Danbury Ice Arena on Friday for the first of 18 meetings against the Danbury Hat Tricks. |
