The Binghamton Black Bears (30-4-0) were shutout by the Pee Dee IceCats (12-17-3) on Saturday night by the score of 4-0. After a Black Bears turnover in the offensive zone, the IceCats transitioned quickly the other way and entered the Black Bears’ end. Dominiks Marcinkevics threaded a pass across the slot past defenseman Dan Stone to Alexander Legkov, who converted for the game’s opening goal at 3:50 of the first period. Marcinkevics factored into the scoring again, but this time it was Patriks who found the back of the net. He finished a well-placed feed from Dzaianis Zaichyk, extending the IceCats’ lead at 10:10 of the first period to 2-0. Despite sustained pressure at both ends of the ice, the second period remained scoreless as neither the Black Bears nor the IceCats could capitalize on their opportunities. Dominiks Marcinkevics extended the IceCats’ lead to 3–0 after capitalizing on a Black Bears turnover at 3:44 of the final period. With the Black Bears’ net empty for an extra attacker in the closing minutes, Pee Dee added to the lead as Dzianis Zaichyk scored the fourth and final goal with 1:22 remaining. The IceCats held on to secure the shutout in front of a sold-out crowd in Binghamton on Saturday night. |
