| The Binghamton Black Bears (27-3-0) defeated the Twin City Thunderbirds (11-15-1) in Winston-Salem by the score of 4-1, winning both games that will be played in Winston-Salem this season between the two teams. The Black Bears opened the scoring on the power play when Tyson Kirkby redirected a Gavin Yates shot at 5:58 of the first period, with Josh Labelle serving a hooking minor. Later in the frame, Ivan Bondarenko forced a turnover behind the net and fed Kirkby, who buried his second of the game to extend the lead to 2–0 with 9:57 remaining in the period. Following a neutral-zone turnover by the Black Bears, Zach White put Twin City on the board during 4-on-4 play just 1:12 into the second period to cut the deficit to 2–1. Later in the frame, Gavin Yates restored the two-goal cushion with his 20th of the season, finishing a setup from Kyle Stephan to make it 3–1 with 7:16 remaining in the period. With Dionne Demke serving a tripping minor, the Black Bears added their fourth goal of the night as Nick Swain scored his 11th of the season on the power play. Time expired on the Thunderbirds, and Binghamton closed out a 4–1 victory to complete the weekend sweep in Winston-Salem. |
