The Binghamton Black Bears (31-5-1) defeated the
Indiana Sentinels (8-21-4) by the score of 5-0 in the 3rd meeting
of the season between the two Empire Division teams. Binghamton
opened the scoring early and carried the momentum throughout the first
period, taking a 3–0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Defenseman
Austin D’Orazio put the Black Bears on the board at the 4:03 mark
of the opening period, finishing a play set up by CJ Stubbs
and Ivan Bondarenko to give Binghamton a 1–0 advantage.
The Black Bears extended the lead while shorthanded later in the period.
With Scott Ramaekers serving a tripping minor, Binghamton
controlled possession in the offensive zone, and CJ Stubbs
scored his 29th goal of the season at 15:44, assisted by D’Orazio and
Bondarenko, making it 2–0. Binghamton closed out the period with a power
play goal in the final minute. After Noah Hippolyte-Smith
was called for tripping, the Black Bears needed just nine seconds to
capitalize, as Stubbs netted his second goal of the night at 19:41.
Bondarenko and D’Orazio picked up the assists on the play, sending
Binghamton into the first intermission with a three-goal lead. Binghamton
continued to build on its lead in the second period, adding another goal
while playing shorthanded. With Jacob Shankar serving an
unsportsmanlike conduct minor, the Black Bears generated offense down a man
once again. Ivan Bondarenko scored Binghamton’s second
shorthanded goal of the game at the 14:50 mark of the period, finishing a
play set up by CJ Stubbs to extend the Black Bears’ lead
to 4–0 with 5:10 remaining in the middle frame. Binghamton added one more
goal in the third period and completed the shutout to secure a 5–0 win over
Indiana. Playing shorthanded for the fourth time in the game, the Black
Bears struck again as Kyle Stephan scored Binghamton’s
third shorthanded goal of the night at 12:00 of the period. Stephan
finished a feed from Mac Jansen to push the lead to 5–0
with eight minutes remaining. Binghamton closed out the remainder of the
third period without allowing a goal, sealing the shutout victory in front
of 3,692 fans at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. The Black Bears finished
the night 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Sentinels went 0-for-6 with
the man advantage.
