| The Binghamton Black Bears (12-2-3) lost to the Carolina Thunderbirds (12-3-0) on Saturday night in Winston-Salem by the score of 8-3 The Thunderbirds came out with different energy in the 1st period which kept the Black Bears on their heels, leading to 4 unanswered goals by the Thunderbirds in the first 10 minutes and 30 seconds. Putting the Black Bears down 4-0, the Thunderbirds received three 5 on 5 goals from Jon Buttitta, Joseph Kennedy, Nate Keely, while Petr Panaceck scored on the power play with Gavin Yates in the box for an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty. This led Sam LiVecchi to be pulled from the game, enter in backup net-minder Nolan Egbert. After the Black Bears went on their first power play, Jesse Anderson got his first goal on the season as well as his first power play goal at the 14:23 mark. Less than a minute later, the Black Bears got the game back to just a 2 goal deficit after Tyson Kirkby scored with 4 minutes and 44 seconds left to go in the period. The 2nd period did not fare any better for the Black Bears. They did not score any goals, as well as giving up 3 more goals to the Thunderbirds off the sticks of Jan Salak on the power play, then Joseph Kennedy, just 20 seconds later, but to make matters worse, Gus Ford scored just 10 seconds after that to make this a 7-2 Thunderbirds lead. The 3 goals scored by the Thunderbirds were all in just 30 seconds. Nikita Ivashkin got one back to make it a 7-3 5:38 into the 3rd period, his 11th goal of the season. Jan Salak scored with 16 seconds left to go in the game to complete the scoring and finsih off a 8-3 win for the Carolina Thunderbirds. |
