| The Binghamton Black Bears (1-0) defeated the Carolina Thunderbirds (0-1) in game 1 of the FPHL's Finals by the score of 5-3 and take a 1 game lead in the best of 5 series. Happy Birthday Connor Smith who scored the first goal of the game for the Black Bears just 4:07 into the 1st period. Just over 8 minutes later the Black Bears went up 2-0 nothing as one of the Black Aces got the call, Jestin Somero and he cashed in for his first goal of the playoffs. Josh Fletcher then put the Black Bears up 3-0 with a goal just 3:53 to go in the 1st period. With the Black Bears on the power play and after a turnover, Gus Ford took the puck in all alone and scored the Thunderbirds first goal of the game shorthanded just 1:36 in the period. The Black Bears got their 3 goal lead back with a power play goal from Dan Stone just 34 seconds later. Gus Ford scored his 2nd goal of the game with 7:25 left to go in the 3rd period to cut the lead down to just a 2 goal lead for the Black Bears. Ford completed the hat trick with 3:50 left to go in the 3rd cutting the lead to just 1 goal at 4-3. Austin Thompson scored an empty net goal with 11 seconds to go in the game, giving the Black Bears a 5-3 victory and 1 game lead in the series over the Thunderbirds. |
