| The Binghamton Black Bears (12-1-3) defeated the Carolina Thunderbirds (11-3-0) in Winston-Salem on Friday night by the low score of 2-1. The two started the game off with a fight just 35 seconds into the game with Tyson Kirkby and Joseph Kennedy dropping the gloves. The Thunderbirds Captain, Gus Ford was injured in the 1st period and left the ice at the 12:55 mark. Through the 1st period Connor McAnanama was perfect stopping 13 shots and Carolina net-minder Mario Cavalieri was perfect as well stopping all 11 Binghamton shots. The first goal of the game late in the 2nd period with Tucker Firth in the box for a high-sticking call, Binghamton's Tyson Kirby scored his 9th goal of the season with the Black Bears on the man advantage. But the 1 goal lead did not last long as the Thunderbirds best line tied the game back up with a goal by Dawson Baker with 2:52 left to go in the period. The third period saw only 1 goal from either team and it was the game winner, coming off the stick of Nikita Ivashkin, scoring his 10th of the season and his 101st goal of his career. Connor McAnanama was stellar saving 39 of 40 shots, earning his 3rd win of the season. |
