April 7, 2024 - Binghamton Black Bears News Release

The Captain scored in OT to bring home the win in the series finale vs. the Wolves
Watertown, NY- The Binghamton Black Bears defeated the Watertown Wolves in a primetime, Sunday night hockey game, 3-2 in OT. Tyson Kirkby scored his 39th of the season in overtime to secure the victory for Binghamton.

In the final game of the four-game weekend, Binghamton found themselves down by one, early in the first period. Watertown’s Carter Thornton deflected a shot into the net, giving the Wolves the first lead of the game. The Black Bears were able to score on their second power play of the game. Gavin Yates outwaited the goaltender for his 18th tally of the season. After one period, the game was tied at 1-1.

Early in the second, the Binghamton power play would strike again. Dan Wieber scored his 5th of the year, giving the visitors their first lead of the contest. While both teams had chances to score, Conor McAnanama and Spencer Kozlowski stopped a combined 27 shots in the second period. After forty minutes, Binghamton led 2-1.

In the third, Watertown was able to withstand the pressure from the Black Bears. While the Wolves power play was unable to score, they got a jolt of energy at 5on5 when Michael Mercurio squeezed one by Mcananama. With 6:38 remaining in regulation time, Watertown had tied the game.

Neither side was able to score in the final stretch of the third period. Once the game entered overtime, Binghamton controlled the puck for most of the extra frame. Colan Fitzgerald was able to set up the game-winning from Tyson Kirkby, securing the 37th victory of the season for the Black Bears. This win signifies the most wins in franchise history.
