April 27, 2013 - Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The fourth seeded Binghamton Senators hosted the fifth seeded Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series in 2013 Calder Cup playoffs tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. After overcoming a two-goal deficit to send the game into overtime, the B-Sens fell in a close overtime period to the Penguins, 3-2.

The Penguins came out strong in the first period, scoring the game’s first tally as Brian Gibbons cashed in the series’ first goal on the power play courtesy of Brian Dumoulin and Derek Nesbitt at 10:58. Chad Kolarik would give Wilkes-Barre their second goal of the night at 16:41 of the first aided by Trevor Smith and Riley Holzapfel. The B-Sens regained their ground on the power play as Shane Prince sniped one in the Penguins net on a pass from Chris Wideman at the 19:12 mark. Binghamton was outshot in the opening period 11-3.

Mark Stone scored a game tying goal in the 2nd.
While entering the second period down 2-1, Mark Stone rallied the tying goal, unassisted, at 17:03 of the middle frame on a turnover deep in the Penguins zone.

While both benches had multiples chances in the third period, neither team was able to put the puck in the net as the game was sent into overtime. It took 8:18 minutes for the Wilkes-Barre to score the overtime winner as Chad Kolarik tallied his second of the night.

Nathan Lawson started in goal for Binghamton, stopping 30 of 33 shots faced. Jeff Zatkoff earned the win for Wilkes-Barre, making 34 saves on 36 shots.
