| The Binghamton Black Bears (22-3-6) defeated the Elmira River Sharks (9-20-0) at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena by the score of 9-2 on Saturday at the 39th traditional Heart Cup Game. The Black Bears got on the board first with a Tommy Wray goal 5:49 into the 1st period after taking a pass from Josh Fletcher. The Captain Tyson Kirkby continued his hot streak with another first period goal at the 12:38 mark of the 1st period making this a 2-0 Black Bears lead. With 2:49 left to go in the first period, Gavin Yates made this a 3 goal lead on the power play with Elmira's Martin Moucha in the penalty box for an interference call. The Black continued their scoring ways in the 2nd period early on with Connor Smith scoring his 2nd goal of the weekend as the Black Bears now had a 4 goal lead over the River Sharks. At the 5:09 mark of the 2nd period, Gavin Yates scored his 2nd goal of the game putting the game out of reach. Elmira's Elijah Wilson was sent to the box for slashing at the 3:49 mark of the 2nd period in which Donald Olivieri made the River Sharks paying as he scored the Black Bears 6th goal and 2nd goal on the power play. The River Sharks then got on the score board 6:21 into the period off the stick of Davide Gaeta, making this a 6-1 game. The Black Bears scored their 3rd power play goal just 14 seconds after MJ Maerkl was sent to the box for slashing, giving Josh Fletcher his first goal of the game. Not to be out done, the Black Bears power play, one of the best in the FPHL, scored its 4th of the game in the 3rd period just 10:03 into the final frame. Olivieri scored his 2nd goal of the game and the Black Bears 9th goal with just 8:20 left in the 3rd period. The River Sharks Larri Vartianen scored the River Sharks 2nd goal with just 1:15 left to go in the game, leaving the final score a 9-2 win for the Black Bears. |
