| The Binghamton Black Bears (28-5-6) defeated the Danbury Hat Tricks (21-16-4) at the Danbury Ice Arena by the score of 4-2 and clinching their 3rd straight ticket into the FPHL playoffs. The Black Bears got outshot 16 to 5, but scored the only goal of the period as Andrew Logar won a battle in a corner and sent the puck to Andrew Uturo who pushed the puck into a very wide open net to give the Black Bears a 1-0 lead at the 17:28 mark. Zachary Pamaylaon went the box for delay of game with the puck going up and out the playing surface, the Black Bears power play faltered as Jonny Ruiz was able to capitalize on a 2 on 1 shorthanded chance to make this a 1-1 game 4:12 into the 2nd period. The Black Bears on a 5 on 3 power play pulled ahead by 1 goal with a Dan Stone goal, his 3rd of the season 9:04 into the 2nd period. Jake Shultz was tagged for Slashing late in the 3rd period and the Hat Tricks made them pay with a Jonny Ruiz goal that tied the game up at 2 goals with 5:32 left to go in the period. The game winning goal came off the stick of rookie forward playing in his first pro-game, Peter Izzo who scored his goal with 2:50 left in the game before Tyson Kirkby scored an unassisted empty net goal to make this a 4-2 win and with these 3 points, the Black Bears clinch a spot in the Commissioner’s Cup Playoffs on February 25th. |
