The Binghamton Black Bears (27-5-6) defeated the Watertown Wolves (12-23-5) at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in front of their 2nd straight sell-out by the score of 6-5 in the shootout. A little past the mid-way point of the first period with Liam Anderson in the box for slashing, Trevor Lord scored a power play goal to give the Wolves the first lead of the game at the 13:20 mark. Michael Mercurio put the Wolves up by 2 goals after a turnover in the Black Bears defense-zone just 1:32 into the 2nd frame. The Black Bears get on the score sheet as the returning Jestin Somero scored for the Black Bears with 11:08 left to go in the period to make this a 2-1 game. Sam LiVecchi was pulled for Nolan Egbert after the Wolves scored two more goal, first by Joshua Tomasi on the power play and then after a Tate Leeson goal at the 12:32 mark of the 2nd. The Wolves Mercurio scored his second goal of the game 3:15 into the period, putting the Black Bears down by 4 goals. With Ivan Sergev in the box for holding, the Black Bears scored their only power play goal of the game at the 5:54 mark off the stick of Andrew Logar, his 9th power play goal of the season. Connor Smith brought the game to just a 2 goal deficit with a goal just under the 10 minute mark of the third period. The Black Bears generated many more chances in the 3rd period and got their 4th goal with 5:28 left in the period when D-Man JT Walters beat Wolves net-minder, Spencer Kozlowski. Just under 2 minutes later, Tyson Kirkby scored the game tying goal which forced this game to overtime. The Black Bears and the Wolves traded penalties in the overtime period and neither team scored moving this game to the shoot-out. Egbert, in relief for LiVecchi saved all three shots from the Wolves side and Connor Smith scored the Black Bears third attempt getting the Black Bears their 2nd shoot-out win of the season. |
