Pucks will be flying, fans will be cheering and the Knoxville Speed and the B.C. Icemen will be taking the ice tonight as Alpha Delta Pi raises money for the Ronald McDonald House.
At 7:05 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum the Speed will be teaming up with the sorority to solicit funds for their philanthropy.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary home for young patients and their families in need of treatment at local hospitals, such as the East Tennessee Children's Hospital, said Sarah Autry, philanthropy chair of ADPi.
The event is the Knoxville Speed Hockey League's kickoff for a weekend devoted to supporting East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
According to Erin Burns, the public relations chair for ADPi, the sorority will raise money for the Ronald McDonald House by selling $5 tickets to the community and students all week.
At the game, sorority members will collect donations at the door, sell hockey pucks for the chuck-a-puck game and serve as waitresses for the fans. Prizes will be given away all night.
We have worked very hard planning the event, and we hope that it will not only benefit the children of the Ronald McDonald House, but it will also be a fun and entertaining philanthropy event for those who attend, Burns said.
According to Autry, David Landeo and the Speed Freaks will perform, and there will be free KAT shuttles between the campus and coliseum an hour before and after game time.
The women of ADPi want to invite all to attend an exciting Knoxville Speed hockey game, in which a percentage of proceeds from the game will provide financial support for the Knoxville Ronald McDonald House, Autry said.
For tickets, students can stop by the ADPi booth in the University Center plaza today from noon to 2 p.m.
