WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA...The American Hockey League announced today that Binghamton Rangers' center Chris Ferraro has been named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 15, 1996. Ferraro recorded 8 points (3-5-8) in 4 games as the Rangers went 1-3-0 at the conclusion of a 7 game road trip. In recognition of his achievement, Sher-Wood will contribute a dozen hockey sticks and a case of InGlasCo pucks to the local minor hockey association of Chris's choice.
The week began for the 23 year old native of Jefferson, N.Y. in Saint John, NB on Tuesday night as he notched 1 assist in a 6-3 setback at the hands of the Flames. Two nights later against the Fredericton Canadiens, Ferraro picked up another assist in a 7-5 loss. On Friday the Rangers returned to Saint John and on a 1 goal 1 assist performance from the 5'10", 175lb center, Binghamton skated away with a 3-1 victory. To conclude the week and the road trip, Ferraro scored twice and set up another as the Rangers fell in overtime to the Canadiens by a score of 5-4.
Drafted by the New York Rangers as their fourth choice, 85th overall, in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, Ferraro made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal while joining the Rangers for a 2 game stint during the 1995-96 season. Last season with Binghamton, the former NCAA Champion with the University of Maine, recorded 99 points including 32 goals while accumulating 208 PIM.
