Phantoms notch ninth win in a row

The Phantoms tied a franchise record last night with their ninth straight AHL victory, as they defeated the Binghamton Senators, 3-2, in Binghamton, N.Y.

The other nine-game streak occurred Dec. 6-27, 1997.

R.J. Umberger scored the game-winner for the second straight time when his goal gave the Phantoms a 3-1 lead 54 seconds into the second period.

Binghamton, which pressured the Phantoms the rest of that period, got to within a goal before the break when Pat Kavanagh deflected a shot by Greg Watson over goalie Neil Little at 9 minutes, 43 seconds to make it 3-2.

The Phantoms scored two power-play goals in the first period to overcome an early 1-0 Binghamton lead.

Tony Voce's goal with 32 seconds left in the period put the Phantoms ahead, 2-1, and was his first since Oct. 27.

Little, who has won all three of his starts, had 33 saves as the Senators outshot the Phantoms, 35-20.

The Phantoms return home tonight to the Wachovia Spectrum to meet the Norfolk Admirals at 6:05.
