MOOSE TOP SENATORS, 5-3

The Binghamton Senators dropped their first home game of the season on Saturday night as they lost 5-3 to the Manitoba Moose, in a game that saw the first five goals scored on the power play.

Manitoba got on the board around the midway point of the first period when Brandon Nolan scored a goal that was set up by Nolan Baumgartner and Kirill Koltsov. Time of the goal was 12:38 of the first period.

Binghamton would tie the game at one a piece only 53 seconds into the second frame on a Brian Pothier slap shot from just inside the point. Jason Spezza and Denis Hamel were given the assists on the tally.

Andy Hedlund put the Sens out front 2-1 at the 5:54 mark of the second period when he was able to find the back of the net with assists from Pothier and Antoine Vermette.

Manitoba’s Jason King scored his league leading 12th goal of the season at 14:28 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Peter Sarno and Kirill Koltsov.

Sarno was able to find the back of the net himself less than a minute later with assists from Jason King and Nolan Baumgartner. The goal was scored at the 15:12 mark of the second period and put the Moose up 3-2.

Manitoba opened up a 4-2 lead 1:35 seconds into the third period yet another power-play goal; this time scored by Ryan Kesler. The goal was assisted by Kevin Bieksa and Tomas Mojzis.

Binghamton was able to pull within one when rookie defenseman Neil Komadoski scored at 3:59 of the third period. Antoine Vermette and Andy Hedlund assisted on the goal.

The Moose put the nail in the coffin at 5:26 of the third with a goal by Josh Green. Brandon Nolan and Ryan Kesler were given the assists.

Senators goaltender Billy Thompson made 23 saves on 28 shots while Manitoba’s Alex Auld turned away 43 of the 46 Binghamton shots.

Binghamton was 2 for 6 with the man advantage while the Moose ended the game 4 for 8.

The Sens are in action again tomorrow night as they travel south to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Countdown to Faceoff begins at 2:30 p.m. on 680 AM WINR.
