BINGHAMTON FALLS 3-2 IN BRIDGEPORT

Binghamton’s three-game winning streak was snapped Sunday evening as Bridgeport defeated the Senators 3-2 in a showdown of East Division rivals.

The B-Sens fell in a hole early as they were out shot in the first period for a fourth consecutive game. Center Ryan Kraft picked up his third goal of the season at 2:48 of the first period when he took a rebound and slipped a shot by B-Sens’ goaltender Ray Emery. The goal was assisted by left wing Matt Koalska and right wing Sean Bergenheim.

Rookie defenseman Chris Campoli scored his first professional goal at 11:23 of the first period. Center Kevin Colley assisted on the play and Bergenheim picked up his second of the assist of the game.

But Binghamton came back strong early in the second period and got a power-play goal from center Antoine Vermette. The goal, Vermette’s second of the season, was assisted by defenseman Jesse Fibiger and center Charlie Stephens at 3:38 of the second.

Binghamton had plenty of opportunities as Bridgeport’s Jim Campbell and Eric Godard were each assessed five-minute major penalties in the second period. But Binghamton came up empty handed despite spending 10 minutes on the power play as a result of the penalties.

Justin Mapletoft scored the game-winning goal late in the second period to put the Sound Tigers ahead 3-1. Sean Bergenheim picked up his third assist of the game on the play while Matt Koalska would tally his second helper of the evening.

Forward Chris Kelly scored his first goal of the year at 15:33 of the third period. Rookie winger Grant Potulny had the lone assist on the goal.

The Senators out shot the Sound Tigers 33 to 29 for the game. Binghamton finished the game 1 for 10 on the power play while Bridgeport was 0 for 3.

Ray Emery made 26 saves on 29 shots while picking up his second loss of the season. Bridgeport and former B.C. Iceman goaltender Dieter Kochan earned his second win of the year while making 31 saves on 33 shots.
