Bulldogs Lose in Overtime

Binghamton, NY– Jason Spezza scored just 32 seconds into overtime to give the Binghamton Senators a 2-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday in Binghamton. The Bulldogs record now stands at two wins, one loss and two overtime losses.

After a scoreless first period, the Senators opened the scoring at the 4:00 mark of the second period on the power play, as Denis Hamel took a Jason Spezza pass and one-timed a shot past Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis. Binghamton’s Anton Volchenkov picked up the other assist on the play.

The Bulldogs fired a season high 15 shots on goal in the first period.

Bulldogs forward Tomas Plekanec evened the score 1-1 at 12:26 of the third period on the power play. Plekanec took a high slap shot that beat Senators goaltender Billy Thompson. Hamilton’s Ron Hainsey and Jason Ward assisted on Plekanec’s goal.

Binghamton’s Spezza won the game just 32 seconds into overtime as he tipped a Volchenkov point shot into the Bulldogs goal.

Bulldogs’ netminder Yann Danis stopped 29 shots on the evening, and suffered his first career AHL loss. Billy Thompson earned the victory by making 30 saves for the Senators.

The Bulldogs scored once on six opportunities with the man-advantage. Binghamton tallied one goal on five power play opportunities.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next home action will take place TOMORROW - Sunday, October 24th, when the Edmonton Road Runners make their first visit to Copps Coliseum.
