The announcement was made on Friday morning by Ottawa head coach Bryan Murray and general manager John Muckler.

Paddock spent two seasons behind the B-Sens bench as head coach, compiling a record of 77 wins, 65 losses and 18 ties. He returns to the NHL only five wins from 500 for his AHL coaching career. With 495 AHL wins, he ranks third all-time in AHL victories.

"John is an experienced hockey man who has worked with, and developed, a number of our talented younger players," said Murray. "He's someone I know I can work well with and he brings a great deal to our organization."

During his 12 seasons as an AHL head coach, Paddock won a Calder Cup trophy with three different teams. He won his first with Maine in 1984, second in Hershey in 1988 and third with Hartford in 2000.

Coach Paddock is no stranger to Binghamton as he spent the 1990-1991 season as head coach of the Binghamton Rangers. In his first season with the Binghamton Senators, he took the team to the conference finals.

"The addition of John to the coaching staff is a great move on Ottawa's part," says Binghamton Senators vice president Tom Mitchell. "His work ethic, familiarity with many of the players, and keen hockey insight will be a great asset to Bryan Murray. The move will only serve to strengthen the relationship between our two organizations."

"I'm excited in coming to Ottawa and to an organization and coaching staff of a team that has aspirations to win the Stanley Cup," said Paddock. "That's the most appealing part of the job."

The Ottawa Senators will assign a head coach to the Binghamton Senators at a date yet to be determined.
