Slovakian defenceman is take 23rd overall by Ottawa

Saturday, June 26 - Day 1 of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft from the RBC Center in Carolina is now complete and the Ottawa Senators have selected five players. With their first pick of the day the Senators grabbed Andrej Meszaros a defenceman from Slovakia, 23rd overall. The Senators also selected Kirill Lyamin a Russian defenceman with their second round pick, 58th overall. Ottawa also traded Radek Bonk to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the 77th selection and took Shawn Weller a left winger. The Senators also picked forward Peter Regin and goaltender Jeff Glass in the third round. Ottawa will have an additional six picks on Sunday (Rounds 4-9).
