B-Sens Bolstered Up the Middle

The Binghamton Senators, in conjunction with the Ottawa Senators, announced today that center Charlie Stephens has been acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for right wing Dennis Bonvie.

Stephens is expected to join Binghamton for Saturday home game against the Rochester Americans at 7:05 p.m.

Originally a second round pick (31st overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Stephens was drafted by Colorado in the sixth round (196th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The 22-year old from London, ON, appeared in 32 games this season with the Hershey Bears (AHL), scoring five goals and 14 points. Stephens also saw action with the Quad City (UHL), posting one assist in seven games with the Mallards.

In 74 games in his rookie season last year with the Bears, Stephens was the club’s fifth-leading scorer with 50 points and second-leading assist man with 33.
