ADMRIALS OUTLAST B-SENS IN A SHOOTOUT

Matt Ellison and Rene Bourque had two points and a shootout goal each to lift the Admirals to a 3-2 shootout win over Binghamton.

After a scoreless opening period, the teams combined for 31 second period shots. A failed clearing attempt found the puck on the stick of Binghamton’s Pat Kavanagh who put it home at 16:04 for the games first tally.

Matt Ellison knotted the score with 11th of the season at 1:52 of the third period. The B-Sens regained the lead when Jan Platil blasted one from inside the blueline for a shorthanded goal at 6:46. From behind Binghamton’s net, Ellison found Marty Wilford who fired the puck home at the 10:26 mark for a 2-2 score.

In the overtime session, Norfolk outshot Binghamton 3-1, but neither team could break up the tie.

The Admirals finally won the game in the fifth round of the shootout. The shootout was also tied at 2-2 with Ellison due up as the home team’s final skater. Ellison beat goalie Ray Emery with a wrister to give Norfolk the victory.

Adam Munro had 31 stops on the night as he picked up the win while Emery finished with 39 stops for the B-Sens.

Norfolk was 0-6 on the power play, Binghamton was 0-3.
