SENS SAIL PAST NORFOLK 6-2 IN FIRST GAME

The Senators won the first of two games against the Admirals this weekend 6-2 at The Scope in Norfolk on Saturday night.

Despite begin out shot 40 to 18 in the game the Senators built a 5-0 lead when Pat Kavanagh scored at 3:50 of the second period.

Chris Kelly, Anton Volchenkov, Denis Hamel and Jason Spezza all scored in the first period. The goals by Hamel and Spezza came only nine seconds apart setting a franchise record for the fastest two goals scored by Binghamton in their three season history.

Pat Kavanagh had his first two-goal game as a Senator and rookie Rene Bourque scored both of Norfolk’s goals.

Ray Emery was spectacular in net stopping 38 of 40 shots. His 38 saves tied a season high previously set on December 17 against Bridgeport.

Brian McGrattan received one fighting major in the game and is now only 55 penalty minutes shy of breaking Dennis Bonvie’s single season American Hockey League record of 522 set during the 1996-97 season.

Jason Spezza had two assists to go along with his goal giving him 98 points this season.
