SOUND TIGERS BEAT BINGHAMTON 2-1 IN SHOOTOUT

Sound Tigers win fourth home game in a row

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Binghamton Senators on Friday in a 2-1 shootout thriller to keep them on a four game win streak at home.

Binghamton took an early 1-0 lead when Anton Volchenkov scored his sixth goal of the season off a face-off win by Pat Kavanagh who received the lone assist on the goal 1:25 into the first period.

After a scoreless middle frame, the Sound Tigers' Rob Collins added to his team-leading totals with his 14th goal and 34th point tying the game at 1-1 2:33 into the third period. Kevin Colley and Justin Papineau, who was returning to the lineup after a 20-game absence with a separated shoulder, each recorded an assist on the play.

The game remained tied after the third and through a five-minute overtime period.

Collins was first to score in the shootout, doing so in the first round, and John Morlang scored the game-winning goal in the third round with Wade Dubielewicz stopping four of five attempts by the Senators.

Dubielewicz also made 39 saves in regulation and overtime to earn the first star of the game. Morlang was the second star with the game-winner. Sound Tigers defenseman Jody Robinson was the third star of the game playing a big role in holding the League's leading scorer Jason Spezza to no points. Binghamton goaltender Billy Thompson made 21 saves as the Senators outshot the Sound Tigers 40-23. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 5 on the power play while Binghamton was 0 for 2.

The Sound Tigers will visit the Hershey Bears tomorrow at 7 p.m. They will also visit Binghamton next Thursday at 7:05 p.m. and host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the home of the Islanders, the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, next Friday, February 18th at 7:30 p.m. The Sound Tigers' next home game at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be Sunday, February 20th at 4:05 p.m. against the Worcester IceCats.
