HOME ICE WINNING STREAK SNAPPED BY RIVER RATS

One night after having their franchise-record nine game winning streak snapped by the Rochester Americans, the Binghamton Senators had another franchise-record streak ended on Saturday night by a score of 4-0 to the Albany River Rats. Binghamton had not lost on home ice in 10 games (including one win at the Corel Centre in Ottawa, Ontario on January 22nd.

Teemu Kesa opened the scoring for Albany with an unassisted goal just 2:57 into the game.

Alexsander Suglobov gave the Rats a 2-0 lead at the 11:52 of the first period. Goaltender Ari Ahonen was credited with the assist on the goal.

Albany picked up one goal in the middle frame, making the score 3-0, at 10:51. Tuomas Pihlman picked up the goal with assists going to Adrian Foster and Ilkka Pikkarainen.

The Rats fourth goal came with just 39 seconds left in the game when Ray Schultz scored an unassisted marker.

Billy Thompson lost for the first time since a 3-2 overtime decision on December 11th in Albany. Thompson made 26 saves on 30 shots. Ari Ahonen picked up the win for Albany while stopping all 34 shots he faced.

For the second consecutive game Binghamton’s power play failed to register a point going 0 for 6 tonight. Albany was 1 for 7 on the power play.

The Senators return to action on Sunday evening when they welcome the Syracuse Crunch to town for a 5:05p.m. face off.
