HAMEL HAT TRICK FUELS SENATORS ROMP

Denis Hamel recorded the first hat trick for the Binghamton Senators this season and top prospect Jason Spezza recorded four points (2g, 2a) as the Sens defeated the Springfield Falcons 7-1 on Friday night.

Binghamton put four goals past Springfield goaltender Brian Eklund before the Falcons could find the back of the net 11:54 into the middle frame. Marc Busenburg picked up that power-play goal but was quickly countered by Josh Langfeld’s second power-play tally of the evening at 14:50 of the second to give the Sens a 5-1 lead. Langfeld picked up three points in the contest with both of his goals coming on the power-play and assisting on Denis Hamel’s early second period goal.

Binghamton’s seven goals set a new season high but fell just two short of the franchise record which was set on February 13, 2003 in a 9-0 rout of the St. John’s Maple Leafs in a game that was played at the Corel Centre in Ottawa, ON.

Billy Thompson was solid in net for the Sens stopping 20 of 21 shots while Eklund made 27 saves on 34 shots in the loss for the Falcons.

Binghamton was 3 for 6 on the power play while Springfield was 1 for 6.
