Press & Sun Bulletin

The BC Icemen and expansion Mohawk Valley Prowlers will be joined in a division by a pair of teams from North Carolina—Winston-Salem and Asheville—for the 1998-99 United Hockey League season.

Winston-Salem is 795miles from Binghamton according to the UHL. The Asheville team played the last seven seasons in Branford, Ontario, as the Branford Smoke.

“I think it’s OK travel wise—it helps more than it hurts,” Icemen general manager Patrick Snyder said. “When we go down there, we’re playing both teams, which are two hours apart, instead of making a separate trip to Branford (325 miles away).”

Quad City, Thunder Bay and Madison will play in another division. The league’s four Michigan teams—Flint. Muskegon, Port Huron and Saginaw—make up a third division.
